What we do
Tree removal
dead, leaning, storm-damaged and large trees, taken down in sections near buildings.
Tree trimming and pruning
thinning, deadwood and branches over roofs and fences.
Stump grinding
stumps ground below the surface, sized by diameter.
Emergency and storm damage
a tree on the house, limbs down, a yard to clear.
Tree cost calculator
a rough range for removal, trimming and stumps.
What will the job cost?
Pick a service, enter your trees by size, and you get a rough range, marked as an estimate, not a quote. No email needed. For removal, access, a crane and haul-away change the number, so add them on the full tree cost calculator.
Enter at least one tree or stump.
What drives the price on any tree job: how tall the tree is, how close it is to a house or power lines, whether a crane is needed, whether the wood is hauled away, and how wide any stump is.
Whose tree is it?
Before anyone cuts, it helps to know who looks after the tree.
Street trees.
City Forestry covers trees in the street right-of-way. A rule of thumb: the strip between the curb and the sidewalk. It also covers City parks and golf courses.
Alleys and utility easements.
These are the adjacent owner's responsibility. Each alley owner maintains their half.
Your own yard.
Trees on private property belong to the owner. The City does not work on private-property trees.
That is a rule of thumb, not legal advice. For a City tree, see the City of Wichita's Forestry operations page. The City's tree rules FAQ covers alleys and private trees. For a tree in your own yard, that is our kind of job. See tree removal and tree trimming.
Trees that give Wichita yards trouble
K-State reports that old Siberian elms accounted for 30 to 80 percent of the loss in older sections of Wichita. K-State also lists Bradford pear, Russian olive and willow among the weaker trees.
Trees that come up often in Wichita yards include red oak, bur oak, American elm, hackberry, green ash, redbud, Bradford pear, silver maple, cottonwood and pin oak. Each one grows, drops limbs and fails in its own way, so the right work depends on the tree.
If one of these is leaning, dropping big limbs or dead in the crown, send the form and say which tree it is.
How it works
Call or send the form. Tell us what you want done and roughly how big the tree is.
We come out and measure. We look at the tree, the access, and what is under and around it.
We do the work and clean up. Cut, lower, haul away or leave the wood, as you agreed.
Stump option. If a stump is left, grinding is its own job and is priced separately. See stump grinding.
